In a time in which environmental responsibility is becoming increasingly important, conservation of resources and environmentally sound construction methods are gaining in significance.
Today there is a demand for building materials which require little energy for their production, which are always recyclable and hygienically safe, and which also offer scope for creative design – modern building materials such as earth.

Building with earth is often associated with the following terms and concepts:
Healthy, conservation of resources, environmentally friendly, sustainability, ecology, ecological, ecological building, conservation of historic monuments, preservation, building biology, architecture and the environment.
Building materials made of earth and clay
Clay, brick, rammed earth, clay plaster, loam, earth, adobe, light clay, straw clay.
Additives and reinforcement materials are used to modify the technical properties of the building material e.g. mass, insulation, thermal capacity as well as to minimise the problem of shrinkage.
Additives and aggregates include animal hair, straw, reed, sand, quark, casein, gravel, hemp, fleece, fibres fibrous additives, expanded clay, dung, blood.
Earthen building products, and materials made of clay and earth:
Earth bricks, clay plaster, clay panels, clay dry lining panelling, loam fill, clay mortar and earth mortars, earth stoves, domes and arches.
Clay and earth can be used for and in conjunction with the following structural and building construction methods:
load-bearing walls, frame construction, monolithic construction, timber-frame construction, restoration of half-timbered buildings, nogging, cob-walling.
